Alright, let's do a quick half-asleep bio right now. Hmm, lessee... I grew up in the nineties living with my mom. I always had an NES, and it served me well. A PC came into the picture at some point and that's when I discovered point-and-click adventure games and I've been a huge fan ever since. My mom had a Game Gear, and my dad had an Atari Lynx, so that took care of the handheld gaming. I never really knew much about the progression of console gaming. I didn't know one Sega from another, and I only ever saw an SNES at daycares. So I pretty much grew up on those four platforms my whole early childhood.
One day I received an N64 as a birthday present from my Aunt Lisa, and it was all downhill from there. It quickly became my favorite system, and to this day I cherish it dearly. But it's also probably what really got me into games. Up until that point, gaming was just something else to make me not bored, but when I got that 64 I became a gamer.
Not too long after, I moved in with my dad and stepmom and made a bunch of friends at school who were really into Pokémon, and suddenly I had a Game Boy Color. From there, it was PS2, GCN, XBox, and GBA until I was absolutely, completely, and hopelessly addicted without a morsel of hope in sight. Not to mention going back and picking up an SNES for my trouble, of course. This was the golden age of gaming.
Late in high school I got a job and saved up and bought myself two things. First was a Nintendo DS that I got because my friends at school were all into Mario Kart DS (some things never change), and around half a year later I picked up my very own XBox 360, and it's served me well since then. We've seen many battles together, and all of my current generation games seem to wind up on there, saving for a small stack of DS games, of course.
I am now a pretty big achievement whore, but I still stop and make time for the better games in life. And I still consider adventure games to be my favorite genre (point-and-click mainly, but platforming ones hold a special place in my heart as well). After that comes everything. Take a look around - I don't really hate on any genre, aside from maybe the yearly sports title cash grab. I try and give any game with an ounce of merit a chance to prove itself. I'll play pretty much anything is what I'm saying here.
I guess we'll just wait and see where video games take me from here.
